Geek-Tweak: Digitizing your Analog Pastor

  • Make a list of 3 ways you want your pastor interacting with the web (We'll choose podcasting, twitter, and blogging)
  • Ask your pastor if he would like to reach a broader audience.
  • Determine if you think your pastor has the time/energy/skills to do this on his own.
  • If not, it is actually pretty easy!
  • Twitter: Simply ask your pastor's secretary to email you his sermon title for the next service, and perhaps some key open-to-the-public bits of info about his schedule each week.
  • Blogging: email your pastor to ask him what he thinks about a particular topic, letting him know you will be sharing his response.
  • Podcasting: Ask the sound engineer if he records the sermon to cassette or CD, if so nab a copy, if not, ask him if you could plug in a laptop to record.
  • Now just process the data for each of those areas of web interaction the way you normally would if it were your own. (Meaning, post the tweets, clean and post the blog, and encode the podcast.)
  • Before doing any of this, make sure your pastor understands it will be on the web for everyone to see, and that once it is on the web, there is no true way to take it off.
  • Also ask around to see if there is official artwork, design standards, audio clips, etc. to accompany your content. (such as overall styles for the blog or audio intro's for the podcast)
  • Don't hesitate to get other people involved, with your pastor's permission.

View-Source: Identity Theft

  • Wikipedia defines Identity theft as "[...] A term used to refer to fraud that involves pretending to be someone else in order to steal money or get other benefits."
  • As Christians, we are taking on the identity of Christ, but in a manner approved of and encouraged by Christ.
  • Why do we do this?
    • Because our parents are Christians and their parents are Christians, etc.
    • It feels good
    • You go to church
    • You have a relationship with Christ
    • You are striving to follow Christ
    • You want to claim the blessings and benefits of Christ
  • What it means to be a Christian
    • Co-heir with Christ
    • Child of God
    • Blessed with every spiritual blessing
    • Having eternal life
  • Too often we assume the name of Christ and don't take the benefits
  • illustration: Man on cruise that eats PB&J since he can't afford food, even though it is included in the ticket
  • On top of receiving the blessings of Christ, by assuming the identity of Christ, when we introduce ourselves as Christ (or as Christians) the way we behave directly impacts the opinion people have of Christ.
  • Things to think about throughout the week:
    • What are you doing to represent Christ in a scriptural manner?
    • What can you do to start taking advantage of the blessings of Christ?
    • What are the blessings Christ has for us?
